Description

Choquequirao trek classic 4 days, is one of the little crowded routes of Cusco but no less attractive than Machu Picchu, since Choquequirao is considered the Sister Citadel of Machu Picchu.

The Choquequirao Trek 4 days / 3 nights is a demanding hike that crosses the Apurímac Canyon and leads directly to one of Peru’s most important Inca archaeological sites. Along the route, you pass viewpoints, valleys, farming areas, and small communities before reaching Choquequirao, a large and quiet complex with terraces, temples, and ceremonial sectors. It is an ideal trek for travelers looking for a challenging, authentic experience with direct contact with Andean nature and history.

Day 1: Cusco – Cachora – Capuliyoc Viewpoint – Chiquisca

We start early with a 6:00 a.m. pick-up from your hotel and drive toward the town of Cachora, where our muleteers are waiting and the trekking adventure begins.
The first section of the route is gradual and open, offering wide views of valleys and mountain chains.
After a couple of hours, we reach the Capuliyoc viewpoint, one of the highlights of the entire trail. From here, the vast Apurímac Canyon comes into full view, setting the tone for the journey ahead. We enjoy lunch overlooking this dramatic landscape and then descend toward Chiquisca, a warm and sheltered area where we set up our first campsite.

Day 2: Chiquisca – Apurímac River – Marampata – Choquequirao Camp

After breakfast, we hike down for about an hour to the Apurímac River, the lowest point of the trek. From here, the trail climbs steadily, becoming the most demanding section of the day.
We pass through Santa Rosa, a small settlement known for fresh sugarcane juice and local drinks. Then we continue ascending until we reach Marampata, a natural balcony with incredible views of the Choquequirao mountain—perfect for lunch and a short rest.
In the afternoon, we continue toward our campsite located near the archaeological site, only a short walk away.

Day 3: Choquequirao – Playa Rosalina – Chiquisca

We begin the morning exploring the impressive Choquequirao complex. Terraces, temples, ritual platforms, and panoramic viewpoints reveal the genius of Inca engineering and the spiritual importance of this hidden city.
After the guided visit, we start our return journey, descending back to Playa Rosalina for lunch beside the river. Later, we hike uphill again until reaching Chiquisca, where we spend our final night in the canyon’s warmer climate.

Day 4: Chiquisca – Capuliyoc – Cachora – Cusco

We start before sunrise to take advantage of the cooler morning hours while climbing toward Capuliyoc. This segment is demanding, but the sweeping canyon views make every step worthwhile. From Capuliyoc, the remaining path toward Cachora becomes gentler. Upon arrival, we enjoy our last lunch and say goodbye to the muleteers and support team.
Finally, we return to Cusco in our private transport, arriving around 7:00 p.m.
