Day 1: Cusco – Paucartambo – Cloud Forest – Pilcopata Lodge

We begin our journey early in the morning, leaving Cusco aboard a private, comfortable vehicle that ascends through the Andes toward the picturesque colonial town of Paucartambo. Along the way, we stop to visit the pre-Inca burial towers of Ninamarca, ancient stone structures that reveal the deep cultural roots of the Andean highlands.
As we continue, the scenery transforms dramatically. We enter the lush cloud forest, a magical ecosystem covered in moss, orchids, and ferns. Here, we’ll take our first short hike and may spot Peru’s national bird, the Andean Cock-of-the-Rock (Rupicola peruviana), along with monkeys, trogons, and—if luck is on our side—the elusive Spectacled Bear (Tremarctos ornatus), the only bear species native to South America.
By evening, we arrive in Pilcopata, where we’ll spend the night at a cozy eco-lodge surrounded by the sounds of the forest.

Day 2: Pilcopata – Atalaya – Rainforest Lodge

Wake up to the chorus of Amazonian birds and enjoy a hearty breakfast before continuing toward Atalaya Port, located on the banks of the Alto Madre de Dios River. En route, we’ll visit coca leaf plantations and enjoy sweeping views of the lowland rainforest.
At Atalaya, we board a motorized canoe and begin navigating downstream, observing wildlife along the riverbanks. Later, we explore the serene Machuwasi Lake, paddling on rustic wooden rafts as we search for the remarkable Hoatzin, a prehistoric-looking bird found only in the Amazon.
While hiking around the lake, we may encounter monkey families, capybaras (the world’s largest rodent), peccaries, and a variety of colorful birds including herons, toucans, and oropendolas. After dinner, we take a night walk, an incredible opportunity to experience the nocturnal life of the rainforest.

Day 3: Rainforest Lodge – Parrot Clay Lick – Machuwasi Lake

After breakfast, we hike for about two hours into the primary forest, walking beneath towering Ceiba trees, the giants and guardians of the Amazon. Along the trail, we’ll observe toucans, macaws, snakes, and with a bit of luck, even catch a glimpse of a jaguar.
Later, enjoy free time for a refreshing swim in the river, followed by a natural clay therapy session, a traditional Amazonian wellness ritual. In the afternoon, we’ll go birdwatching, with chances to see red howler monkeys and other exotic species.
