Description

Qeswachaka Tour - Inca tradition that resists modernity. The Q'eswachaka Inca bridge over the Apurimac River, is completely woven with ichu, according to the Inca tradition, and is the only one of its kind in the World.

The Qeswachaka Bridge is not just an engineering marvel of the Inca civilization — it is a living symbol of the Andean legacy that continues to unite generations across time. Woven entirely by hand from ichu (highland grass), this suspension bridge stretches across the Apurímac River and is rebuilt every year by local communities, preserving a sacred tradition that has endured for centuries.
Visiting Qeswachaka means witnessing living history — a link between past and present that reflects the spirit, skill, and unity of the Andean people. Surrounded by breathtaking valleys, canyons, and traditional villages, this journey allows travelers to understand the cultural strength of the Andes and the importance of keeping their traditions alive.

QESWACHAKA BRIDGE

The adventure begins early in the morning, around 4:30 a.m., with pickup from your hotel in Cusco. While the city still sleeps, we head south through peaceful Andean landscapes, passing picturesque villages such as Combapata, Yanaoca, and Quehue.
Along the way, we make brief stops to admire the Pomacanchi, Acopia, Asnaqocha, and Pampamarca Lakes, a group of natural highland lagoons surrounded by native birds and serene views.
Continuing the journey, we arrive at the Qeswachaka Bridge, the last Inca suspension bridge still in use. Hanging over the Apurímac Canyon, this bridge is made entirely of ichu grass and renewed every year through a sacred communal ceremony that celebrates unity and ancestral knowledge.
You’ll have time to cross the bridge (optional), take photos, and enjoy the stunning views of the canyon. Your guide will share the fascinating stories and deep cultural meaning this bridge holds for local communities.
Afterward, we enjoy a traditional local lunch in a nearby village, surrounded by the peace and beauty of the Andes. Finally, we return to Cusco, arriving around 5:00 p.m., with your heart full of history, culture, and the living spirit of the Andes.
