- Finish: 6.30PM
The Cusco City Tour is an ideal visit to discover the city's main historical and archaeological attractions. During the tour, you'll explore sites that showcase the grandeur of the Inca past and the colonial influence that marked its transformation over time.
TOUR OF THE QORICANCHA TEMPLE AND THE SANTO DOMINGO CONVENT
The first stop is the Qorikancha, one of the most important temples of the Tawantinsuyo, dedicated to the worship of the Sun. Inside, you can see the original Inca architecture, perfectly integrated, alongside the colonial structure of the Santo Domingo Convent, which was built upon its walls. This contrast allows you to appreciate the transition between the two most significant periods in Cusco's history.
SACSAYHUAMAN TOUR
Then continue to the upper part of the city to visit Sacsayhuamán, located about 3 km from the historic center. It is an impressive Inca construction known for its enormous stone blocks, some weighing over 100 tons, placed with remarkable precision. From this point, you get a panoramic view of Cusco and understand why it was a strategic military and ceremonial site. Every June 24th, Sacsayhuamán is the main stage of the Inti Raymi celebration, or Festival of the Sun.
QENQO TOUR
A short distance away is Qenqo, a ceremonial site carved into the rock. Rituals and offerings dedicated to the Andean gods were performed in its passageways and enclosures. Here, you can explore the canals and the carved stone altar, a symbol of the Inca's spiritual connection with nature.
PUCA PUCARA TOUR
The next stop is Puka Pukara, a military construction that served as a checkpoint and rest stop on the routes to the Sacred Valley. Its name means "red fortress" due to the hue its stones acquire in the sunset light. From this point, access to Cusco was controlled and lodging was provided for travelers and the Inca's delegations.
TOUR TO TAMBOMACHAY
The tour ends at Tambomachay, known as the "Bath of the Inca." This site is notable for its fountains, canals, and stone aqueducts, which still retain a constant flow of water. It represents the Incas' advanced hydraulic knowledge and their respect for natural resources.
After the visit, there is a brief stop at a traditional artisan market, where visitors can appreciate the work of local artisans and purchase souvenirs.
The tour lasts approximately five hours and concludes at Plaza Regocijo, a few meters from the Plaza de Armas.
