Description
Short Inca Trail, will make you know Machu Picchu in just two days, visiting the most important places in the citadel and surroundings.
The Short Inca Trail is a brief but complete experience, designed for travelers who want to reach Machu Picchu by walking an original section of the ancient Inca route. Starting at kilometer 104, the trail passes through Andean vegetation, agricultural terraces, and archaeological sites such as Chachabamba and Wiñay Wayna, before arriving at the Sun Gate (Inti Punku) — the first viewpoint overlooking Machu Picchu.
On the second day, the guided visit follows the Circuit of the Viewpoints, which covers the upper terraces and offers the most panoramic views of the archaeological complex. It is a short hike with a moderate level of effort and a clear focus: to reach Machu Picchu by walking the same path once taken by the Incas.
Day 1: Cusco – Km 104 – Wiñay Wayna – Aguas Calientes
Early departure from Cusco by transport to Ollantaytambo, then by train to kilometer 104, the starting point of the Short Inca Trail. At the checkpoint, tickets and documents are presented before beginning the hike.
The trail starts with a visit to the archaeological site of Chachabamba and continues along an original Inca path of about 11 kilometers toward Wiñay Wayna, one of the most remarkable sites along the route. After a guided visit and a short rest, the hike continues to the Sun Gate (Inti Punku), from where travelers get their first panoramic view of Machu Picchu.
After enjoying the view, the group descends toward the citadel without entering the main circuit. The day ends with a bus ride down to Aguas Calientes, where dinner is served and the night is spent in a local hotel.
Day 2: Machu Picchu – Aguas Calientes – Cusco
After an early breakfast, the group takes the bus up to the Machu Picchu Sanctuary for a guided visit. The tour follows the Circuit of the Viewpoints, which includes the upper terraces of the site, offering wide panoramic views of the Inca city and the surrounding mountains.
Once the visit is completed, travelers descend to Aguas Calientes. There is free time to have lunch or explore the town before taking the train back to Ollantaytambo, followed by transport to Cusco, arriving around 6:30 p.m.
