The Reserve is characterized by cold waters that allow abundance of plankton and a large variety of fish, algae and seafood, is a protected natural area of Peru in the region of Ica and extends largely in the province of Pisco. It is no coincidence that this area, which overlooks the Pacific Ocean, is a favorite place for sea lions, penguins and over 200 varieties of birds (resident and migratory) who travel thousands of miles to feed and rest in this reserve. But its extension also embraces much of the Paracas desert, pre-Inca archaeological sites and islands, such as those of Ballestas. Its extension is 335,000 hectares, of which 35% corresponds to land and islands and 65% corresponds to sea water. The natural beauty of the RNP is complemented by a good gastronomic offer and beaches like La Mina, Mendieta and Lagunillas, where camping and sport fishing are practiced.
